bulletThornbury Grammar School

Thornbury Grammar School was founded in 1570 and existed until 1973 when it was merged with Marlwood Comprehensive school in Alveston. It was one of the last traditional Grammar schools enjoying high academic standards that disappeared in the 70's as a result of the move to the Comprehensive education system. The history of both Thornbury Grammar and Marlwood can be seen at http://www.thornburygrammar.org.uk/

The school motto was the rather austere Disce aut discede which meant "Learn or leave".  A view of of Thornbury Grammar school from the playing field. Click on the above picture to link to the web site.
